Cracked walls. Broken water lines. Roof separation. These are all signs that a structure is built on a weak foundation. Constructing on bad soil will eventually cause the foundation to sink, throwing off the alignment of the entire building. Imagine building a solid, cement fortress on top of that foundation. Over time, the structure reveals some damages and begins to sink deeper and deeper into the ground.
Two things can happen next: the problem is ignored and the structure falls apart; or, someone digs through the dirt, jacks the home back in place, and then pours concrete to hold it back up.
Now, consider for a moment that the spine is the foundation of the human body. Wouldn’t that mean that its functionality is key to the body’s overall health?
Since the chiropractic profession was defined in 1895, chiropractic has grown exponentially as an effective means of helping return natural movement to the spine. The spine serves as the foundation for all the other structures in the body to build on, making it an essential first step to establishing joint, muscle, and nerve health.
Chiropractic treatment starts by evaluating the movement body’s posture and movement, before performing an orthopaedic examination and finding any connections to movement “restrictions” or “misalignments” in the spine. These misalignments can result from physical or postural trauma and can cause compensations in other muscles and joints of the body. Misalignments can also cause feelings of stiffness, aching, pain or simply make the body more prone to injury as compensations cause other areas of the body to work harder than intended. Chiropractors are trained to deliver “adjustments”, which are highly-skilled and precise movements usually applied by hand to the vertebrae of the spine or other joints of the body.
Adjustment to the joint restores proper movement and improves function. These adjustments combined with muscle release techniques, muscle stimulation and therapeutic exercises help relieve your pain and get you moving again.
Chiropractic Care and Your Health
Some chiropractors promote comprehensive chiropractic care as a means of staying healthy, an approach that incorporates diet and exercise with routine adjustments. According to the Canadian Chiropractic Association, Chiropractors are one of the largest primary health providers in Canada with more than 7,000 practitioners across the country.
Countless studies document the effectiveness and cost effectiveness of chiropractic. Even more significant is that 25% of British Columbians regularly visit their family chiropractor to recover from workplace accidents, car crashes, sports injuries or aches and pains associated with everyday living
Chiropractic adjustments are safe and in fact a chiropractic treatment is one of the safest forms of treatment. Many studies, including Neck Adustment: Benefits and Safety, have already proven the effectiveness and safety of chiropractic care. Serious adverse effects are rare, less than 1 in 10 million treatments. Compared to drugs and pain-killers, this risk is significantly lower
