What is Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of conditions related to the body’s muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves and joints.

Why We are the Best Chiropractic Clinic in Burnaby and New Westminster

With at least seven years of post-secondary education and over 4,500 hours of academic and clinical education, the staff at Pacific Health provide chiropractic care with the latest techniques and rehabilitation knowledge. Going above and beyond expectations is our philosophy, and that’s why our practitioners have taken extra training and continuing education courses in the field of Sports Chiropractic, weightlifting, and running. Our staff also recognizes that one style of treatment does not fit all, which is why we use a combination of treatment strategies to provide effective care. Treatment techniques include chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue therapy such as Active Release Techniques (ART) and Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM), Class 4 Laser Therapy, cupping, and athletic taping. This well-rounded approach helps place us at the forefront of healthcare providers.

Chiropractic Benefits

Chiropractic care benefits include the improvement of neck and back pain, headaches, arthritis symptoms, joint pain, scoliosis, tightness and stiffness, sprained joints, nerve pain, vertigo and dizziness, plantar fasciitis, shoulder injuries, and much more!

Chiropractic care can be simplified into three phases of care, including: Relief care, corrective care, and maintenance/preventative care. Relief care, where most new patients start, is focused on your immediate injury pain. This type of care includes diagnosing your injury, figuring out why it has happened to you, and providing a strategy to quickly improve your ability to work, move, and have fun without pain. Corrective care, which follows relief care, comes after the pain has been subdued. Here, we can figure out exactly how your body is moving, without being affected by pain, figuring out what kind of injuries your body is prone to and how to prevent any injuries from occurring again. Lastly, maintenance/preventative care is a way to be proactive about your health by pinpointing the daily stressors that you have that are affecting your body. This type of care is focused on undoing the physical stress and harm that your body is constantly exposed to with your current lifestyle- helping to maintain all the improvements made in the previous phase of care with regular check-ups!

What’s the difference between a chiropractor, massage therapist, and a physiotherapist?

A chiropractor works closely with physiotherapists and massage therapists in order to treat similar conditions. Although all three professions can treat similar injuries, chiropractors receive roughly two years of additional training to properly diagnose and treat injuries, ruling out other serious conditions or problems that may have similar symptoms. The treatment strategy for chiropractors involves the use of various gentle hands-on techniques such as chiropractic adjustments, joint mobilizations, and Active Release Techniques (ART). In contrast, a patient seeing a massage therapist will almost exclusively receive soft tissue therapy for muscle injuries and tightness while a physiotherapist would provide more focus on exercise rehabilitation and strengthening.
