Custom Orthotics Burnaby and New Westminster

Custom Orthotics

Feet provide the foundation for the entire body. Any deviation from normal structure and/or function can result in not only foot pain but also knee, hip and back pain. This can contribute to conditions such as plantar fasciitis, shin splints, arthritis, iliotibial band syndrome, achilles tendonitis, metatarsalgia and patellofemoral pain syndrome.

Fitting patients with custom orthotics can improve posture, restore normal biomechanics of the feet as well as maximize comfort, support and shock absorption. By casting an orthotic to your exact foot shape, we create the best possible circumstances to improve your foot’s support and movement. Off the shelf foot supports are often not as beneficial as custom orthotics due to poor fitment, cheap materials, and often weak support.

Our methods include a biomechanical assessment of your foot and gait, analyzing the way you walk while keeping in mind your needs and goals. Our report and cast are then sent to our orthotic lab, where technicians are able to create the best orthotics to fit your feet. With custom orthotics, we are able to make special adjustments to assist patients with high arches or flat feet, patients that are diabetic or arthritic, and even patients with heel spurs, leg length inequalities, or bunions.

Your orthotics are custom made to you, but occasionally, a small adjustment is needed to get a perfect fit. This adjustment is included in the cost of your orthotic so there are no extra charges. If you have never had an orthotic, it can be difficult initially to know if an adjustment is needed, especially during the first two to four weeks as your body needs time to get used to the new devices. The best way to know if an adjustment is needed if you have any discomfort and how long it lasts. If an area of your foot has discomfort for one day but it is not painful for the rest of the week, something prior caused the inflammation and the orthotics aren’t the cause. However, if you have discomfort every day of the week following the onset of the initial discomfort, then it’s likely that your orthotic needs a small adjustment for a better fit.
